How Does Citrus Grow? |

Citrus trees bloom in the early spring, the aroma of white blossoms heavy in the air. |
Summer is the growing season. Florida's climate, soil and sunshine produces thin-skinned fruit full of sweet juice. |
In the Fall, it's time to begin harvesting the fruit. Triple C Growers are in the groves daily to insure oranges and grapefruit are always picked perfectly ripe, perfectly sweet and ready to eat.
|
When Florida Winters bring cooler weather, the skin color changes from greenish-yellow to orange-gold. Natural color changes or blemishes do not affect the fruit inside. Rest assured your tree-ripened Triple C citrus is fresh and delicious. |
Every carton of citrus is hand packed from our groves with fresh, juicy tree ripened citrus. |

We also wrap our juicy citrus in special wrapping and boxes for that thoughtful gift you want to give to someone special. |

The Citrus Process |

As soon as the first citrus varieties of the season are ready for harvest the pickers arrive in the groves. Each picker carries a large bag on their back that holds the fruit as it is picked. |
All of Triple C’s fruit is carefully picked by hand to insure that only the very best, perfectly ripe fruit is taken off the trees. Each bin is filled with ten 90 lb bags of freshly-picked Triple C Citrus. |
Once the citrus bins are full, the bins are then loaded onto a transport trailer by a contraption known as a “goat”. The goat, pictured above , utilizes a hydraulic arm to lift the citrus-laden bins onto a trailer.
|
All of Triple C’s fresh-from-the-grove Indian River citrus arrives by trailer to our packing house |
At our packing house we pamper each and every piece of guaranteed fresh Triple C Citrus! |

The citrus is poured onto a series of moving rollers which gently tumble the fruit through a refreshing pre-soak shower to loosen any dirt on the fruit’s outer skin. |

Next, the citrus gets thoroughly scrubbed on a “ brush bed” using a mild soap, water and a series of brushes which spin the fruit around vigorously so they are thoroughly cleaned. |
After a thorough rinse, the cleaned fruit passes through a series or warm dryers where it is dried and buffed to a shine to seal in freshness and juice. |
The cleaned & shiny fruit is then sorted by hand. Fruit that is too small or has blemishes are removed and sent to a be used for juicing. After our citrus passes this final quality control check, it is sent down a graduated roller where it is sized according to the Florida Department of Citrus specifications, so that every box is packed with uniform sized fruit.
|
While each piece of our citrus is delicious, the best, most beautiful pieces of citrus are hand selected and then sent to our gift packing department where our citrus gifts and gift baskets are made. |
The remaining fruit that is U.S.#1 is packed by hand according to Florida Department of Citrus Regulations. 4/5 bushel boxes are used for all commercial shipping to markets and chain stores all over the country.
|
Florida's gentle breezes and heavy rain storms can sometimes brush fruit against branches, scratching the tender skin, causing "wind scarring” We as growers know that natural color changes or blemishes do not affect the fruit inside. These pieces of fruit are perfect for us to squeeze for juice! Any fruit that is not juiced or packed for shipment is graded into culls and used as cattlefeed. |
